OBJECTIVE: To describe the experience of the Center of Implantation to cochlear of the Service of Otolaryngology of the HU of the Federal University of Sergipe. MATERIAL AND METHOD retrospect carried through gotten information of handbooks of eight patients submitted to the surgery of implantation about one cortex to cochlear. We evaluate: sex, etiology, age in the surgery, and time of deafness, classification of the deafness, surgery unilateral or bilateral, postoperative complications intra and, impedance and neural reply of the electrodes in the intra-operative, examinations daily pre-operatives and findings that contraindicated the surgery. RESULTS: Of eight patients five were children and three were adult. Four of masculine sex and four of feminine sex. Etiology: 2 maternal rubella, 2 cytomegalovirus, 2 ototoxicity, 1 meningitis and 1 sudden deafness. The age in the surgery and time of deafness had varied respectively of 2 to 46 years and 2 to 18 years. Six patients had been classified as daily pay-linguist and the others two as after-linguist. All presented deep bilateral. 75% had been implanted bilaterally. Intra-operative complication: to gusher. Complications of the postoperative one: vertigo and fails of the internal device. In 6 patients the electrodes had been implanted completely. The telemetry carried through in the intra-operative showed satisfactory to neural reply and impedance of the implanted electrodes. TC and RNM had been carried through in all the patients in the daily pay-operative. We find widening of the aqueduct initial in a patient. CONCLUSION: the implantation to cochlear is a form of consolidated auditory rehabilitation already and comes spreading out in different centers specialized in otoaudiology. Of this form, it is clear the necessity of services structuralized and professional enabled in this type of procedure.
