Author(s):
Carlos Augusto Ferreira de Araujo, Avenilda de Azevedo Silva
Abstract:

During years of work we see the number of children who are later diagnosed with significant hearing loss. In many cases the ignorance of parents about the problem was clear, encouraging us to initiate a preventive work. Clarify the importance of the family being targeted and inserted in this process. Helping us to detect any changes and childhood stimulation. Aiming the GLOBAL development. In the first phase of screening were selected 100 children of both gender, aged from 03 days old to 40 days old. In the second phase of the screening group of children was made aware that the family had better answers than the group of mothers without awareness. It is important to evaluate the baby equipment; however the "Mother" is the most reliable unit. The family must be integrated with its responsibilities, and with knowledge of the stages of infant development. Actually become a team BABY x MOTHER x OTOLARYNGOLOGIST x HEARING CARE PROFESSIONAL x ANOTHER PROFESSIONAL (if necessary). It is gratifying to see the mother participant in the process, his return, exchange their experiences with other mothers. They feel as co-therapists and anxieties tend to decrease with the successes they achieve.
