Abstract:

OBJECTIVE: Raise and compare together the main findings of audiometry in patients diagnosed with Apnea Syndrome and Obstructive Sleep Hypopnea (SAHOS) and primary snoring. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We selected 31 patients treated between March of 2008 and December of 2011 with a diagnosis of primary snoring and SAHOS confirmed by polysomnographic. In all other patients were excluded etiological factors related to hearing loss. Patients were then subjected to tonal audiometric (AT). Data were compared between patients divided into 4 groups according to the criteria of severity: mild SAHOS (n = 9), moderate SAHOS (n = 6), severe SAHOS (n = 9) and primary snoring (n = 7 .) Data were analyzed by chi-square independent proportions and Fisher's exact test. RESULTS: In cases of SAHOS were identified 19 patients with reduction in sensorineural hearing tonal responses in contrast to only one case of primary snoring group. In the SAHOS group (n = 9) found changes in response to 8 patients, while in groups of moderate SAHOS (n = 6) and severe (n = 9) were identified 2:09 lowering of exams with answers respectively. We could not find in any case of group relegation conductive or mixed responses in the auditory tone. In patients with SAHOS prevalence was lowered bilateral (n = 16) compared to unilateral (n = 3). One patient group identified primary snoring is lowering AT bilaterally. CONCLUSIONS: In SAHOS cases were identified in significant lowering sensorineural hearing tonal responses in these patients when compared to the group of primary snoring.
